How to Replace / Remove Dell Inspiron 17-3721 17R-5721 17R-5737 CPU Fan

Please be sure your laptop has been turned off. Unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery.   
1. Remove one screw securing the memory cover, remove the memory cover.  Then Remove the memory card.
2. Removing the had drive:
A. Remove the screws securing the hard-drive assembly to the computer base.
B. Using the pull tab, slide the hard-drive assembly towards the side of the computer to disconnect the hard-drive assembly from the system board.
C. Using the pull tab, lift the hard-drive assembly off the computer base.

3. Remove the opitical disk drive. Remove one screw securing the optical disk drive. Pull DVD drive to the left and remove it from the optical-drive bay.

4.  Removing the Dell Inspiron 17-3721 17R-5721 17R-5737 keyboard
A. Open the display as far as possible.
B. Using a plastic scribe, pry the keyboard from the tabs on the palm-rest.
C. Turn the keyboard over and place it on the palm-rest.
D. Lift the connector latch and disconnect the keyboard cable from the
keyboard-cable connector.
E. Lift the keyboard off the palm-rest.

5.  Removing the Palm-Rest
A. Remove the screws that secure the palm-rest to the computer base.
B. Turn the computer over and open the display as far as possible.
C. Lift the connector latches and, using the pull-tabs, disconnect the power-button cable and touchpad cable from the system board.
D. Remove the screws that secure the palm-rest to the computer base.
E. Using a plastic scribe, gently lift and release the tabs on the palm-rest from the slots on the computer base.
CAUTION: Separate the palm-rest from the display assembly carefully to avoid
damage to the display assembly.
F. Lift the palm-rest off the computer base.


6. Using a plastic scribe, gently pry out the coin-cell battery out of the battery socket on the system board.

7. Removing the Wireless Mini-Card
A. Disconnect the antenna cables from the wireless mini-card.
B. Remove the screw that secures the wireless mini-card to the system board.



8. Removing the system board
A. Disconnect the power-adapter-port cable and the speaker cable from the
system board.
B. Peel the mylar sleeve from the system board.
C. Peel the tape that secures the display cable to the system board and disconnect the display cable from the system board.
D. Lift the connector latch and, using the pull-tab, disconnect the I/O-board cable from the system board.
E. Remove the screws that secure the system board to the computer base.
F. Lift the system board at an angle and release the system-board ports from the slots on the computer base.
G. Lift the system-board assembly off the computer base.
H. Remove the hard-drive interposer board.
K. Turn the system board over.

9. Remoing the Dell Inspiron 17-3721 17R-5721 17R-5737 fan
1 Disconnect the fan cable from the system board.
2 Remove the screw that secures the fan to the system board.
3 Lift the fan along with the cable, off the computer base.


Reverse the procedure to install the new Dell Inspiron 17-3721 17R-5721 17R-5737 fan and assemble the laptop.
