How to Upgrade the Lenovo G550 Laptop Processor

Upgrading the processor or Central Processing Unit (CPU) on the Lenovo G550 is a simple job that can be done in about an hour. Before attempting to upgrade the processor, set the CMOS program to accept the new porcessor or it will not work. The processor sits underneath the graphics card. It can be accessed from the bottom of the laptop with a screwdriver.

1. • Turn the Lenovo G550 laptop on and open the CMOS setup utility program. Set the CMOS screen to allow for the most updated BIOS, then save the program.
     
     
   • Close the program and shut down the computer system. Close the cover on the laptop. Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet..
     
     
   • Remove the power cord from the AC outlet on the side of the laptop. Turn the computer over so you are looking at the bottom of the unit. Take the battery pack out of the laptop. Unfasten the screws that secure the cover over the fan and processor, using a screwdriver.

   • Unfasten the two screws that secure the graphics card to the motherboad, using a screwdriver, and. Remove the card. Locate the processor underneath where the graphics card sits and unplug the processor from the motherboard.
     
     
   • Plug the new processor into the motherboard. Reattach the graphics card to the motherboard with screws. Secure the fan to the motherboard with screws. Plug the fan's electrical wire connector into the motherboard.
     
     
   • Place the cover back over the bottom of the laptop. Secure the cover with the screws. Plug the battery pack into the bottom of the laptop. Turn the computer over so it sits right side up.
     
     
   • Connect the power cord into the AC outlet on the side of the laptop, then plug the other end of the power cord into the electrical outlet.
