How to enable touchpad virtual scrolling (Mouse wheel) on certain Lenovo notebooks

SymptomThis article provides assistance with virtual scrolling (horizontal scrolling, vertical scrolling, multi-finger scrolling) settings method on idea laptops configured with Synaptics, ALPS or Elan touchpad running Windows XP/Vista/7/8.1. Before adjust Device Settings via Control Panel > Mouse, make sure touchpad driver installed on your PC is the latest, if not, please go to support site to download and install.
Steps to download drivers:

1. Go to "http://support.lenovo.com"
2. Key in your product name (ie B560, G230, 100) using the "Search for your product" option.
3. Click on your product name.
4. Click on "Download" tab. You will see your drivers arranged in categories.
5. Select the related category and download your driver.

Touchpad setting interfaces may vary from model to model due to different versions of operating system and software.

SolutionSlide along the scrolling line (on some models, there will be no such a line, but you can still slide on this area to use this feature) on the right of the touchpad as below figure to use virtual scrolling feature.


To enable touchpad scrolling, you need to set relevant options under Mouse property window. To open this window, go to “Control Panel” > “Mouse” as below figure shows.


Synaptics touchpad setting in Windows 7/Vista/XP
1. Switch to the tab of "Device Settings”, click "Settings".


2. Click “Virtual scrolling” and check or uncheck "Enable vertical scrolling", "Enable horizonal scrolling".

1. Switch to the tab of "Device Settings”, click "Settings".



2. Click “Multi-Finger” and adjust "Scroll" option accordingly.

Double-click “Mouse” --> click the “Gestures” tag --> select “Use scrolling”.
